Wiring Diagram

Starting the wiring loom from scratch is a big project, but that's what this bike is about and given that I'm changing virtually everything else it makes no sense to use the old harness. It also means I can clean up and hide the loom, especially at the front end.

There are some great videos on youtube for creating a barebones wiring diagram, but the one I found most helpful was by Revival Cycles (www.youtube.com/watch?v=-m5aUoAK_DM). There are a few differences to what I am implementing on the bike and to the XV750 ignition, but as a basis for creating a wiring diagram using the m-unit and m.button, its excellent.

Using that basis with the detailed connectors and wiring requirements from each of the components I'm using, I developed the wiring diagram below.

To reduce the wiring I've eliminated the neutral and side stand switches on the starter circuit, but I have included a clutch safety switch; meaning the clutch must be in to start the bike. If I then dump the clutch in gear or roll off with the side stand down its my own damn fault.

The are three good earths, one at the front of the frame for the forward controls, one on the m-unit and one for the battery (plus the various components that are earthed through the engine).

I'm also installing the m.lock and the horn under the seat to keep the wiring compact.

No doubt I'll find problems with the wiring diagram as I get deeper into it, but as a starting point it will do. I plan on keeping this up to date, including the wire gauge and colour so that if I need to troubleshoot later (years later) I have a good reference for it.
